A conversation about Nevermore and To the Lighthouse among Cécile Wajsbrot, Tess Lewis, and Rachel Cohen
Acclaimed French novelist Cécile Wajsbrot visits the University of Chicago together with her translator Tess Lewis to discuss translation of novels in general, and translation as the activity of the central character in Wajsbrot’s new novel Nevermore. Wajsbrot is a very significant presence in the French literary landscape, the author of seventeen novels, and herself a distinguished translator. This is Wajsbrot’s first novel to appear in English, and this event is the only stop in Chicago on her North American tour. Tess Lewis is one of the foremost translators working among German, French and English. They will be joined in conversation by University of Chicago faculty member in creative writing, Rachel Cohen, herself long immersed in Woolf and the ways Woolf learned from painters.
